Abstract: A high brightness x-ray source has been obtained byfocusing the large aperture excimer laser HERCULES on asolid target with a laser intensity of more than10$+13$/W/cm$+2$/. The characteristics of the x-raysource for different laser time evolution in the range6-120 ns are investigated. Experimental result onspecific applications of the source, like the softx-ray contact microscopy and the low photon energyradiobiology will be presented. !7
