Angle and position detection in automobiles is performed either with active sensors with analog and digital signal processing or active approaches. The digital signal processing as well as the giant magneto-resistive (GMR) effect offer an enhancement in terms of precision and speed, mainly by simplification of calibration and analysis. With these capabilities new application fields can be developed and existing applications are simplified. State-of-the art integrated circuit concepts as well as the integration of GMR on well-established semiconductor processes allow a new class of highly integrated sensors.
