Use of many plastics has been under attack for some time because of lack of recycling facilities or infrastructure, non-recyclability, non-degradability or incorporation of toxic additives. Legislation to control plastics use has appeared or been proposed in many countries. Current trends indicate steady growth will occur in the use of biodegradable plastics with the increasing availability of suitable materials and because of societal and legislative pressures.
