摘要

Geothermal energy only plays a small role in the Canadian energy market through direct use applications. Currently there are no geothermal power plants in Canada despite the presence of high temperature resources associated with the Pacific Ring of Fire. This paper provides an analysis and evaluation of the geothermal potential for the Clarke Lake and Milo gas fields, located near Fort Nelson in northeast British Columbia. Historical measurements (1958 to 2004) from over 70 oil and gas wells in the area served as the database for our analysis. The method for analysis involved collecting, filtering and assessing recorded depth and temperature data from the existing oil and gas wells. From this data, temperature gradient maps for the Clarke Lake and Milo gas fields were produced to illustrate the geothermal potential in both gas fields.
