This paper discusses the recent research of exploration for hot water with electric sounding in detail, and analyzes the significance to find geothermal resources at moderately shallow strata with an actual case we have completed recently. Based on the analysis of geological and hydro-geologic setting and mastery of electric physical parameters of various type of rocks in the region, it presents the certain relationships between the fault structures associated with origin of hot water and the extent of hot water existing, as well as the determination of overburden depth, location of hot water origin and their lithological characters of bedrocks. This paper also deduces that the upper overburden is more stable sandy shale of Silurian system that is the water-resisting and heat-resisting layers, which is concord with the reserving geothermal condition. The results mentioned above have been confirmed with the following drilling work and satisfactory effects of geological exploration have been obtained. Finally, this paper gives some suggestions of enhancement that the study of physical characters should combine with geological information, which is the only satisfactory way towards the interpretation of geophysics.
