Biological degradation in landfills is influenced by local climate conditions and interferes in settlement levels, temperature, pH, and others physical-chemical and microbiological parameters that control municipal solid waste landfill behavior. However, in Muribeca's Landfill case, other associated factors was found influencing the landfill behavior. Those factors can be presented as: cover layer inefficient compaction, insufficient gas and water drainage, flux inversion (pressure gradient), and air entrance through the cover layer (superficially and laterally). These factors, along with the local climate condition especially in rainy periods, change and destabilize biological degradation due to extra air and water entrance that modifies anaerobic bacteria environment and thus reducing waste biological degradation velocity.
