Environmental hazards are created by both onshore and offshore oil spills that contaminate soil. Oil contamination reduces the shear strength and hydraulic conductivity of sand. This paper summarizes the laboratory test results relating to shear strength and hydraulic conductivity of oil-contaminated sand. Only one type of sand was used for the tests at two relative densities of compaction with three different types of oil with varying kinematic viscosity.
