In this paper, by applying a new pressure coupling method, the complex frequency expressions of one--dimensional water-coal viscous flow in which the viscidity of coal powder is neglected and coal powder is a dense constituent phase are obtained and the corresponding stability criterion concurrently is presented. Based on the analyses of the growth rate curves and development coefficient curves, obtained by numericla computation, for different properties of oal powder and water flow parameter, according to the obtained stability criterion, conclusion about the effect of properties of coal powder and water flow parameter on stability of water flow, such as coal powder volume fraction, nondimensionalized mean water-coal velocity idfference and mean water flow velocity, useful in controls over deposition and tansportation of coal powder in water-coal transport systematic settings, are given out in the end.
