An On-line gage for ash content of paper

An on-line instrument is introduced form easuring the ash content of papers which is based on the high preferential absorption of low-energy x-rays by the inorganic materials. Some aspects on the design, such as the choice of low-energy x-rays source, calibration and correction for changes in basis weight and moisture, are discussed in detail. Results of on-line application show that its accuracy is more than +-0.6
