OUTLOOK FOR LIME AND LIMESTONE FOR FLUE GAS DESULFURIZATION

Flue gas desulfurization (FGD) in North America is a market for 2.25 million tons per year of lime and about 8 million tons per year of limestone. Growth of the FGD market for lime and limestone depends on continued strengthening of air quality regulations. Regulatory proposals in the US may result in an increased market for lime of up to 1.5 million metric tons per year and for limestone of up to 5.2 million metric tons per year between 2007 and 2010.
