Correlation Between Sharpness and Colour of Reproduced Images

An experiment was conducted for subjective assessment of sharpness and colour preference for images displayed on a CRT monitor screen. Blurred versions of each of four original images were generated by convolution with a low-pass Gaussian filter. Sharpened versions of these images were created through adjustment of the image power spectrum. The perceived sharpness results showed a good correlation with the preferred image colour. The SQRI image quality metric was investigated for applicability to the observer results.
