Towards Narrative Text Generation Based on Narrative Strategies and Techniques

Our research goals are both the development of general narrative generation system and using it as various kinds of applications. In this paper, as the early step of the development, we discuss a integrated method for conceptual narrative generation process based on narrative techniques(NTs) and narrative strategies(NSs) and its prototypical implementation. A narrative is expanded or transformed by NTs under the control of NSs. Main NTs receive a node in a current narrative as an argument, and expand or transform it by various operations. Each NS is a rule that has a NT in then-part and is drived by inference mechanism. Conceptual narrative generation process divides into four phases, and appropriate NTs and NSs are defined in each phase. By the implementation of this framework, we showed the system can generate flexiblly different narratives from an input.
