In this paper the identification of a typical kind of variable pump was investigated. A test stand was designed and built to obtain the identification and validation data. Attention was paid firstly to the preparation and filtering of the test and output signal. The model structure for parametric identification was worked out through mathematical derivation. On the other hand the possible model structures were also experimentally researched. The best model structure was selected based on the analysis of the theoretical and experimental model structures. The parameter identifications were carried out and the identified model was validated. The model was then improved through the nonlinearity corrections and thus a complete model was put forth.
