Restructuring Class Hierarchies for Schema Integration

摘要

The usual approaches to integrate schemata with class hierarchies are based on "upward inheritance". Thereby, restructuring schemata during schema integration is not posible. We present an algorithm for deriving a completely new class hierarchy from given object-oriented schemata. Our approach is based on an extensional and intension decomposition which transforms the schemata to be integrated into an intermediate representation. based on that representation our algorithm composes an integrated schema with a new class hierarchy. The algoirthm which we discuss in full detail is part of a more comprehensive integration framework for federated databases design.
