The development of digital content of various kinds has become increasingly crucial for providing better access to information and for coping with rapidly advancing globalisation in networked societies. This Expert Meeting on digital Content development for Information societies is organised as a part of the Study on the Strategic Planning for the Promotion of Informationsation in Asia and the Pacific, which is a joint study project of the selected member countries in the region within the framework of UNESCO information society initiatives. This study is the thrid project in the series of regional studies on information infrastructure development: the first is the SISNAP(study on the Information Infrastructure for Planning Information Systems and Networks in Asia and Pacific Countries) from 1994 to 1996; the second is the National Inforamtion Infrastructure Developments: A Comparative Study on Strategic Planning, 1998.
