Impacts of EVs on Energy, the Environment and Transport Systems

This paper describes the results of Annex II of the International Energy Agency (IEA) Implementing Agreement for Hybrid and Electric Vehicles Technologies and Programmes. Annex II deals with the assessment of the impacts that electric vehicles may have on energy consumption, the environment and transport systems. Within this study attention is paid to the impacts of battery manufacturing, use and recycling, to the impacts on local air quality and to the role of electric vehicles in alternative transport systems. A model is developed which calculates the impacts of the introduction of electric vehicles on the basis of electric vehicle introduction scenarios.
