Pressure to re-develop existing sites raises significant questions about the sustainability and re-use of a wide range of geotechnical installations including foundations, retaining walls and other specialist works. Issues are considered with reference to case studies. Sustainability will significantly affect designers, contractors and promoters of schemes.
