Behaviour of a 14.5m high polystyrene embankment on weak industrial wastes

This paper describes an innovative solution for the replacement of an old railway bridge by the United Kingdom's first expanded polystyrene (EPS) embankment for railway use. At 14.5m high it is also believed to be one of the world's largest EPS embankments. The settlement behaviour of the underlying industrial waste deposits, during and after preloading is also summarised.
