With the high levels of shock generated by launcherseparation and other pyrotechnic systems and thesensitivity of equipment it is necessary to demonstratethat the equipment will survive the environment.This isneeded both during development and qualification ofthe equipment.Equipment needs to be tested individually,but in arepresentative way which is both convenient andinexpensive.CNES is in charge for ESA of the survey of the workdone in the field by European,US and other companiesand institutions and is also performing the synthesis ofshock qualification requirement for satellite equipments.The activity is focused on high level SRS generationthat could not be fulfilled easily on classical testfacilities such as MIPS and electro dynamical shakers.The output of this preliminary analysis has driven to theidentification of inputs for the design of the ideal testbench (e.g.mass and mechanical interface ofequipment,specified SRS,tolerances,etc …).A development plan will be proposed in order toexplore the bench capability for tuning the shock leveland the knee position of the generated SRS.Main requirement is to design a bench :simple,reproducible,easily adjustable and using standard pyroshock generator.Based on its experience on pyrotechnic devicescharacterization,CNES will perform firing tests in thePyrotechnics Laboratory to obtain the shockcharacteristics on dedicated mock-up representative ofsatellite equipement.Appropriate methods and interfaces will be identified toenable the data to be used in computer simulations.The output of the study will be the bench user manual,the data acquisition procedure and processing methods.This paper presents the progress of the activity.
