Safety Concerns for Chemical Spiking at Trial Burns

The heat wave across the United States this year has brought about health and safety concerns and situations unseen in previous years of Trial Burns or Compliance Testing. B3 Systems over the last seven years has established itself as the leader in accurate and precious chemical spiking for regulatory testing. As experience is gained and lessons learned, it was our desire to share the previous year's experience concerning our health and safety record. This paper is also intended to provide this audience and others with our safety checklist used prior to conducting any test. This past year has included the handling of a low boiling point organic compound, Methylene Chloride (which boils at 104 Deg F). The effects of excessive heat and improper chemical selection effecting reactivity and compatibility will be discussed. The excess heat throughout the south amplified many of the problems seen during one of the busiest testing years in recent memory. Several jobs were delayed due to heat related problems.
