SEGMENTATION AND PACKAGING OF REACTOR INTERNALS AT ZORITA POWER PLANT

Zorita NPP, located at Almonacid de Zorita, near Madrid started commercial operation in 1969. The plant is a Westinghouse PWR, with only one cooling loop with and a single Steam Generator and Reactor Coolant Pump. Gross electric power was 160 MWe. In 2003 the decision was made to bring forward the closure date for the Zorita NPP to end of April 2006. Early in 2010, ENRESA, (Spanish National Radioactive Waste Management agency), assumed the responsibility for the plant decommissioning and waste management activities. This paper describes the approach, experiences, main results and lessons learned pertaining to the Zorita Reactor Vessel Internals (RVI) segmentation project, officially finished at the end of 2013.
