Abstract: During the past several years, large scale, CRT projection based, cross cockpit visual display systems have become the preferred imaging system for flight simulation. These display systems typically provide horizontal field's of view FOV's of 150 degrees to 225 degrees, and vertical FOV's of 35 to 40 degrees. Recently, the increase in size and capacity of aircraft has generated a requirement for even larger vertical FOV's, up to 50 degrees. Current cross cockpit visual display systems, providing 150 degree by 40 degree images, utilize three projector channels in a tiled configuration to accommodate the extended horizontal FOV. Each channel is overlapped at the edges to provide a seamless image across the horizontal FOV. In addition, the majority of these CRT projection systems are Raster/Calligraphic. This paper describes the advantages, requirements, and approach to a Simultaneous Raster and Calligraphic Projection system for flight simulation.!0
