Abstract: An intensified/shuttered cooled PC-based CCD camerasystem was designed and successfully fielded on protonradiography experiments at the Los Alamos NationalLaboratory ALNSCE facility using 800-MeV protons. Thefour camera detector system used front-illuminatedfull-frame CCD arrays fiber optically coupled to either25-mm diameter planar diode or microchannel plate imageintensifiers which provided optical shuttering for timeresolved imaging of shock propagation in highexplosives. The intensifiers also provided wavelengthshifting and optical gain. Typical sequences consistingof four images corresponding to consecutive exposuresof about 500 ns duration for 40-ns proton burst imagesseparated by approximately 1 microsecond were takenduring the radiography experiments. Camera design goalsand measured performance characteristics includingresolution, dynamic range, responsivity, systemdetection quantum efficiency, and signal-to-noise willbe discussed. !4
