Plant-derived antioxidant extracts were preparedfrom green tea leaves, corn tassels, Autumn Olive berries,Sea Buckthorn oil, grapefruit seed oil, red pepper extractsand lycopenes prepared from tomato and Autumn oliveberries. Their relative antioxidant activities weredetermined and the extracts/oils were incorporated intostarch-oil mixtures, emulsified by heating in a glycerolbenzalkoniumchloride solution to form cream-likethixotropic gels (1). The resulting oil-in-water emulsionswere tested for their anti-irritant activity by occlusivepatch testing on human skin. Autumn Olive berry extractsand green tea leaf extracts retained their antioxidantactivity in the starch-oil gels and proved to be effective insuppressing detergent induced skin irritation..
