New polymer technologies have increased the performance of water-based resins. Multistage acrylic emulsions are very efficient binders for use in joinery coatings. They provide a very good balance in low coalescent demand for optimal film formation and high hardness, excellent (early) water resistance, excellent blocking resistance and good elasticity. This technology is broadly compatible with existing technologies, for example crosslinking and adhesion promotion making it highly appropriate for the development of new innovative products for the coatings industry. With present, modern technologies, the conclusion will be that wooden windows can be coated with environmentally friendly and energy saving water-based products. When choosing the right coating it will add value, such as long time durability properties, so that wood will be more competitive.
