A site consisting of approximately 1.5 acres was used for the disposal of unpyrolyzed wood fragments, charcoal scraps, and polynuclear aromatic hydrocarbon (PAH) containing wastes from approximately 1954 until the 1960's. Following evaluation of several remedial alternatives, excavation, removal, shipment by rail and landfiling of the site materials was selected as the most cost effective solution. This selected alternative was approved by the USEPA and implemented in teh summer of 1995 with ENSR as the general contracor. A the request of the EPA, the state regulatory agency provided oversight of activities.
