When silicone resin emulsion paints (SREP~*) were first developed and patented exactly 40 years ago, nobody could have anticipated how rapidly this coating system would develop. Since then, silicone resin emulsion paints have advanced to become one of the most modern paint system. The porous surface structure of hydrophilic mineral wall construction material makes it essential to apply protective exterior coatings. The most important technical requirement for a good coating, therefore is, that it should protect the outer wall against water, pollutants, chemical and microbial attack. Since most damaging effects require water, the facades should be low water absorbing. An effective protection from water requires low water absorption as well as good water vapour permeability, to ensure, that the walls can dry out quickly when damp. A coating featuring both properties together provides optimal protection of facades, extending the durability of the masonry construction onto which it is applied. To offer this combination is exactly the specific strength of silicone resin emulsion paints.
