We present here first results on cyclic tensile testing of a polyimide-coated optical fibre and compare them with model predictions based on power-law crack growth theory. Model parameters were calculated with static tensile testing measurements. Strength reduction after cyclic loading was measured by dynamic tensile testing. Lifetime under cyclic loading show slight discrepancy with model predictions. Visual inspection of fibre surface after cyclic loading show coating degradation. This suggests new failure mechanism.
