Bayed beaches are usually studied by applying the long-term equilibrium concept, whichrnresults in a plan shape associated to a dominant wave climate. However, these beaches experiencernimportant shoreline reorientations at shorter time scales due to changes in wave conditions,rnespecially during storms. When these beaches are narrow and support important functions, it isrnnecessary to assess the deviations from the “equilibrium” to evaluate the implications of suchrnchanges. The role of these changes in beach functioning is analyzed by studying the response of arnbayed beach in the Spanish Mediterranean coast under two storm events with differentrncharacteristics and existing pre-storm beach configuration. Results show the strong control that prestormrnbeach configuration exerts on the beach response to storms that can be formalized together thernstorm characteristics in a risk model for managing bayed beaches.
