Conventional cokemaking process has various disadvantages, such as thernrestriction on the coal brands that some proportion of strongly-coking coals has tornbe used as a raw coal for cokemaking, low productivity, the inherent tendency tornlarge-energy consumption, environmental pollution and so on.rnTo solve these problems, development of the innovative cokemaking process,rnSCOPE21(Super Coke Oven for Productivity and Environmental enhancementrntoward the 21st century) has been conducted by Japan Iron and Steel Federationrn(JISF) and Center for Coal Utilization Japan (CCUJ). It has been performed fromrn1994 to 2003 as a ten-year research program.rnSome technologies for SCOPE21 process have been developed to realize thernfollowing concepts.rn1) Effective use of coal resourcesrn2) High Productivity
