Polylactide/organo-montmorillonite (PLA/OMMT) nanocomposites were synthesized in bulk by in situ ring-opening polymerization of D,L-lactide under continuous microwave irradiation, in the presence of organo-montmorillonite. Mechanical properties test of PLA/OMMT nanocomposites with different content of OMMT showed that tensile strength and elongation at break of PLA/OMMT nanocomposites were optimum, when the dosage of OMMT is 1.0 wt.-%. The results of TGA indicated that the Tdc of PLA/OMMT(1.0 wt.-% OMMT) nanocomposites had been heightened 8 °C with comparision of pure PLA. The analyse of scanning electron microscope (SEM) confirmed that the addition of OMMT improved toughness of PLA. Besides, the intercalation and exfoliation behaviour of PLA in the OMMT had been investigated by X-ray diffraction (XRD) and transmitting electron microscope (TEM).
