Photocatalytic Activity for TiO2 Photocatalyst Enhanced by Iodine Doping

Iodine doped TiO2 photocatalysts were prepared by sol-gel method and were characterized by X-ray diffraction (XRD), UV-Vis absorption spectra, transmission electron microscopy (TEM) and photoluminescence spectra (PL). TiO2 with anatase and anatase/rutile phases was obtained. Iodine doping caused the absorption edge of the TiO2 to shift to a lower energy region. The 10 % iodine doped TiO2 with anatase phase treated at 773 K exhibited the highest photocatalytic activity compared with pure TiO2 for degradation of phenol under simulated sunlight irradiation.
