The hydraulic characteristics of cross-type valve tray was studied using air-water system in a ?1000mm column. The effects of liquid flow rate per unit weir length, weir height and plate spacing on pressure drop and entrainment were studied. The results showed that the gas breaks up and distributes well on the cross-type valve tray. The gas-liquid contacting is intensified. Compared with conventional valve trays, we found that the pressure drop and entrainment of cross-type valve tray decreased by about 10%.
