A steady-state model of the reactor was established to analyze the removal of acetone through the reactor packed with ca-alginate immobilized activated sludge gel beads. The effective diffusion coefficient of acetone in calcium alginate gel beads was determined as 1.71×10 -8 m 2 /min. Five kinetic and stoichiometric coefficients in the model, mA, Ksa, μ m, Kso and p were calibrated by iteration calibration which would be ended when the absolute value of difference of mA in two iterations was less than 0.0001. According to this method, under conditions of flow rate 1100 mL/min, inlet concentration 3051 mg/m 3 , the value of parameters were obtained as μ m = 4.17×10 -5 s -1 , Ksa = 76900g/m 3 , Kso = 273mg/m 3 , p = 195, mA = 0.0024. Thiele modulus increased from 2.41 to 4.82 while effective coefficient decreased from 74.8% to 49.3% with the reactor height increase which showed that the diffusion resistance of acetone in the gel beads turned to be a critical factor with the concentration decrease in the reactor. The effective ways to improve the removal efficiency from this system are to reduce Thiele modulus of IASR and enhance effective coefficient.
