This article reported the surface modification of the rare earth activated alkali earth aluminate long afterglow phosphor by Schiff base and copolymer of styrene and maleic acid. The modified products were characterized by IR spectra. The luminescence properties of the products were not decreased greatly measured with spectrometer (Konica Minolta LS-100). The introduction of organic ligands didn't change the excitation and emission spectra of SAO-ED; this was proved by spectrophotometer (F-4500 FL) at room temperature. The water-resistance of the products were obvious improved.
