Integration of Process Safety and Personnel Safety in Japan: Practice in Chemical Industries

Moving toward the ultimate goals of both process safety and personnel safety, a combined top-down and bottom-up approach may be the only way for success. Occupational Health and Safety Management System with risk assessment and Zero Accident Campaign with KYT, etc. will bring benefits toward both goals. A combination of systematic and day-to-day approaches is essential. Participation of all people will be key for this path. Integration of both approaches and also the integration of different involved parties (i.e., contractors) are important in the future to achieve the ideal of zero accidents in the industry.
