This study is an investigative research project that combines molecular spectroscopic analysis and optical fiber technology to determine the combustion gas temperature and species concentration within a production gas turbine under real engine operating conditions. With this technique, an optical fiber sensor is mounted inside a combustion chamber. The flame spectral radiation is collected by the sensor and then transmitted to a spectrometer. Spectral emission features of different molecular species are examined by the spectrometer. The detected spectral signals are analyzed to determine the combustion temperature and mixture composition.
