Technical Review of Innovative Environmental Technologies

Technical reviews are important requirements for objective and accurate evaluations of the quality of technical work. This paper presents the characteristics of a technical review designed to evaluate simulation-based innovative environmental technologies (IET) work. Major review criteria of innovative technologies work include originality, significance, and relevancy to the industry. Technical reviews as they are applied to innovative technologies are analyzed both in the areas of technical content and Quality Control/Quality Assurance (QC/QA). General and specific comments generated from the reviews are provided. General comments on the technical content are concentrated on the IET process, its feasibility study, and safety and reliability. Specific comments concentrate on detailed aspects of the work such as validation, consistency, and completeness. QC/QA review items include general comments in the areas of QC requirements and supporting documentation for engineering and quality verification. QC/QA specific comments are provided in areas such as project team personnel, document control, QA documentation and procedures, receiving and inspection (RI), and project cost monitoring.
