Rock and soil environment around the underground engineering has been seriously damaged with the construction and development of underground engineering in cities, which causes environmental geologic catastrophic including hydrologic and geologic changes, subsidence, rock and soil slip, and landslides.Simultaneously, structures around the underground engineering will be damaged to different degrees, including buildings, foundations, roadways, bridges, public facilities, underground engineering, underground pipelines and other kinds of underground facilities. In this paper, modes of geologic environmental damages caused by underground engineering are systematically studied and classified. Damage recognition methods are proposed,including infrared technology against different kinds of geologic environmental catastrophe. The synergetic action of geologic environment--rock and soil--ground base--foundation--structure in urban underground engineering is studied. The technical methods of safety and protection of the geologic damages are generalized.Finally, the corresponding safety and protection rules are put forwarded to theoretically guide the sustainable development of city construction.
