Zirconium diboride (ZrB_2) has been widely applied in many fields for its excellent performance, such as high melting point, thermal conductivity and corrosion resistance, etc. In this paper, ZrB_2 was in-situ synthesized in the alumina-carbon materials using ZrOCl_2, metal Al and H_3BO_3 powder as the raw materials by thermit reaction. The effect of in-situ synthesized ZrB_2 on the oxidation resistance and corrosion resistance of the alumina-carbon materials was investigated. The experimental results showed that ZrB_2 could be synthesized at low temperature (750℃), the optimum ratio of the raw materials was m(ZrOCl_2): m(H_3BO_3): m(Al)=3: 6: 20. The XRD pattern of the specimen showed that the main crystal phases formed were ZrB_2, Al_2O_3 and a little amount of Al_(20)B_4O_(36) and ZrO_2 in the synthesized materials. The oxidation resistance and corrosion resistance of the alumina-carbon materials were improved by the in-situ synthesized ZrB_2.
