PIPELINE COATING COMPARISON METHODS FOR NORTHERN PIPELINES

During the construction of a pipeline project, and especially a pipeline project in a Northern environment, it is essential that the pipe coating selection is suitable for the conditions that will be encountered in the field. The pipe coating system must also provide the requisite performance during the operating phase, to ensure that a high calibre pipe protection is achieved and the anticipated design life is produced. The remedial expense of repair is exceptionally high and repair logistics are compounded by the environmental conditions and remote location. Coating selection must take account of the expected local conditions to achieve the optimum life-cycle costs for the system. The effects of cold temperature and soil types on the installation and operation processes are some of the major factors affecting the suitability and ultimate integrity of the pipe protection coating.
