The considerable number of input data and the high computational cost, particularly if non-linear soil behaviour is considered, make often the 3D numerical analysis uneconomical. As example, after that the magnitude of the settlement has been obtained by means of a simplified method, the differential finite analysis can be used to obtain more information's on the stress and strain distribution in the soil, raft and along the piles. All these methods analysed indicate that in a piled raft foundation a considerable percentage of the applied load is transferred to the soil foundation by the raft.
