This study examined the vibration welding of TPO plates whose weld interface was orientated in two distinct planes. Plates containing both horizontal and inclined surfaces were injection molded in two different thicknesses. These plates were then vibration welded to create an unequal thickness butt-welded assembly containing two non-parallel weld planes. The tensile strengths were measured at different locations along the weld line. Weld pressure, vibration direction with respect to the weld surface orientation, and the angle of the inclined section were all observed to have significant effects on weld strength.
