Luzenac supplies talc to many plastics industries. Talc provides performance enhancement in polypropylene, TPOs, and other polyolefins; particularly for the automotive industry. Scratch resistance is an important attribute of automotive components that has recently come under more detailed study. Luzenac, along with other investigators, is studying scratch behavior of talc-reinforced polyolefins. Characteristics such as mar, scratch whitening, and critical load for onset of stress (scratch) whitening are being more clearly defined and evaluated. This paper describes some of Luzenac's scratch & mar resistance findings for talc-reinforced polyolefin systems to date.
