Solutions for Safety Improvement of Automotive Lighting in China

Traffic in China has drastically increased in the last ten years.Due to the adopted infrastructure the fatalities in traffic could be reduced in this period from app.100 000 people per year to app.60 000 in 2012 [1].Nevertheless still a high number.Night time Driving and the proper lighting equipment can contribute to improve visibility and detection range for road users and thus reducing traffic accidents and fatalities.The paper describes safety benefits by means of advanced lighting technology for headlamps and rear lamps.Not only the high end premium solutions (e.g.LED Matrix Beam) could help to improve safety but also more simple innovations,which also can be introduced in smaller vehicles can result in a better visibility condition.Some examples like static bending / cornering,day time running lights (DRL),and Glare Free High Beam will be presented.For the further growing Chinese market a good opportunity to combine safety at night time driving with the generally requested attractive design of lamps.
