Microbiologically influenced corrosion (MIC) is the deterioration of materials caused by the presence and activity of micro-organisms. It is a complex problem that presents huge costs to industry. This review will describe the processes and micro-organisms involved in MIC as well as detection techniques. Mitigation methods against MIC will also be addressed.
