Natural gas demand is now increasing rapidly and its pipeline network is also expanding as well. To meet such market requirement, Hitachi has recently developed new type pipeline compressors, featuring high efficiency new 3-D Impellers / Diffusers and wide operating range. The Impeller/Diffuser gas flow were thoroughly investigated by 3-D viscometric analysis and those configurations were optimized by minimizing the gas flow internal losses. The operating range was improved by optimizing blade load distribution in the impeller. By applying such technologies, new type pipeline compressors have obtained higher efficiency and wider operating range to the surge point. Furthermore, new type pipeline compressors have been standardized into 3 frames and 7 rotors. Hitachi have designed and supplied two pipeline booster compressors for Sakhalin Energy's OPF Project on this basis. Those booster compressors will be used for transporting natural gas from the OPF plant in the north of Sakhalin Island to the LNG plant in the southernmost area of Sakhalin Island.
