Recently quantum simulation has attracted a considerable interest among quantum information science community, speci cally after the successful demonstration of the quantum phase transition between the superfluidity and Mott insulator phases of cold Bosonic atoms. in optical lattices. We propose to simulate the Fermi-Hubbard model employing electrons trapped in a two dimensional electron gas in a GaAs/AlGaAs heterojunction, where an "egg-carton" potential is created by two orthogonally propagating surface acoustic waves. The state of the electrons in this system varying from a metallic to insulating or superconducting may be probed via its di erential conductance and noise properties. The experimental feasibility and progress are discussed.
