Discussion on the CO2 Emission Calculation Method and the Reduction Measurement for Chinese steel industry

CO2 calculation methods are discussed based on the analysis of CO2 emission sources from steel manufacturing process.Three kinds of CO2 emission statistic and calculation methods for the steel industry are proposed.The first is direct emission,which is for the calculation of the CO2 emission to the air under the boundary of the steel industry or steel enterprise,and can be used for assessing the total CO2 emission quota.The second is CO2 emission from energy source,which is for the calculation of the CO2 emission sourced from energy consumption,and for the evaluation of the energy efficiency and to promote the energy-saving.The third is CO2 emission based on LCA,which is for the calculating the CO2 emission includes not only the direct emission,but also those indirect emission from the upstream production of the raw materials and fuels,and the CO2 deduction (credit) from the downstream utilization of the by-products and products by the other enterprises.At the same time,issues on data requirements and the CO2 emission factors are discussed and some measurements for reducing CO2 emission for Chinese steel industry are put forward.
