The paper is devoted to the development of reactor physics methods for therndesign and safety assessment of subcritical multiplying sourcedrivenrnsystemsrnfor actinide and ?? ssion product transmutation and for energy production. Thernrecent advances in the development and implementation of numerical techniquesrnin the frame of a collaboration between ENEACasacciarn(Rome) and Politecnicorndi Torino are described.rnThe neutronic models and algorithms in twodimensionalrncylindrical geometryrnand in threedimensionalrnhexagonalaxialrngeometry are presented, including fullrnexpressions for the discretization expressions. Afterwards, the thermal model isrnsummarized and the coupling with the neutronic calculation is described. Finally,rnsome results are presented for test calculations concerning the system currentlyrnproposed as a prototype energy ampliu0001 er. Results showthe role played by thermalrneffects in transient situations and evidence their importance in system operation.
